When I first got it the finish was a soft silver with dark areas. There are no wear areas to show material underneath to be different than the surface. Hi John, I have a puzzler that I hope someone could assist with. Several of the awards are still available for someone to sponsor. Even inside of the attached platform base shines up; it is rough finished but the ridges shine up. There is very little surface damage; only some very minor scratches in one or two areas. This is a highly reliable, nondestructive test for items which are solid with no attachments of other materials.
