The Regiment was reformed as an armoured regiment in South Africa's reserve forces and equipped with Sherman tanks in 1949. Twenty of the heavy guns were engaged in counter-battery work against the enemy artillery, which was operated by Austrian gunners. The later waves continued through the town which the Turks were abandoning in a panic.
